Visa

Applicants from the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland intending to visit the United Republic of Tanzania are required to obtain a visa prior to entry. The Tanzanian government offers an electronic visa (e-Visa) system, facilitating a streamlined application process.

Application Procedure:

  1. Online Application:

    • Access the official Tanzania Electronic Visa Application System at https://visa.immigration.go.tz/
    • Complete the online application form with accurate personal and travel information.
  2. Required Documentation:

    • A passport valid for no less than six months from the intended entry date into Tanzania.
    • A recent passport sized photograph.
    • A return or onward ticket.
    • Proof of accommodation arrangements in Tanzania.
  3. Visa Categories and Fees:

    • Single Entry Visa: Suitable for tourism, leisure, or family visits; valid for up to 90 days. The fee is $50.
    • Multiple Entry Visa: Intended for individuals requiring frequent visits; valid for up to 12 months, with each visit not exceeding 90 days. The fee is $100 (Foreigners needing frequent visits for business, investments, or official duties.).
  4. Payment:

    • Visa fees are payable online during the application process. Acceptable payment methods include major credit and debit cards.
  5. Processing Time:

    • The standard processing period is approximately ten working days. Applicants are advised to submit their applications at least 25 days prior to their intended travel date to accommodate any unforeseen delays.

Alternative Option – Visa on Arrival:

While it is possible to obtain a visa upon arrival at designated entry points in Tanzania, applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for an e-Visa in advance to avoid potential inconveniences or delays at the port of entry.

Additional Considerations:

  • Ensure all information provided in the application is accurate and complete to prevent processing delays.
  • Carry printed copies of the e-Visa approval notice and all supporting documents when travelling.
  • Verify that the passport used for the application is the same as the one presented upon entry into Tanzania.

Referral Visa:

Certain nationalities are classified under the "Referral Visa" category, requiring additional scrutiny and approval from the Commissioner General of Immigration or the Commissioner of Immigration before a visa can be issued. Applicants from countries in this category must apply online and are advised to submit their applications at least two months before their intended travel date. This extended processing time is necessary due to the additional approval procedures involved.
